Orange Donuts with Chocolate Glaze

April 21, 2014

A few weeks ago I was at the farmer's market, saw some oranges and instantly thought 'donuts!'. I'm new to donut making but it's easy and they're so yummy. I've made these a few times now and they're good. Depending on how orange-y you like your baked goods, you could probably add zest from a second orange for a little stronger flavor. This recipe will make 6 donuts plus a little extra for a couple more regular sized donuts or a few minis if you have a mini donut pan.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

6 tbsp sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 egg

1 tbsp butter, melted

6 tbsp milk

Juice of one orange

Zest of one orange

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Coat your pan with non-stick spray.

Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt together in a medium bowl and set aside.

Whisk together the melted butter, milk, zest of one regular sized orange and juice from the same orange in a small bowl.

Add the egg and butter/orange mixture to the flour mixture. Mix to combine but don't over mix.

Either spoon or pipe enough batter into your donut pan, making sure each opening is 3/4 full.

Bake donuts for 9 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool donuts on rack while making the glaze.

Chocolate Glaze

1/2 cup chocolate chips

2 tbsp butter, melted

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp milk (more if needed)

Melt the butter and chocolate chips.

Transfer butter and chocolate mixture to a bowl and add the powdered sugar and milk. Mix with a whisk until it's smooth (add more milk if necessary).

Dip donuts into glaze and place on the rack to dry (about 15 - 20 minutes if you can wait that long...)
